Denia Training Camp: Day 2

Denia Training Camp: Day 2

Last night Garry Palmer did a demonstration fitness test for us, discussing the results as they were being produced on screen.  A reasonable night’s sleep and decent breakfast.

Riding day 2 started with Jon being told to ride with the “medium” group rather than the “steady” group.  I think he was rather pleased really.  In the end I think he was yesterday in an uncomfortably slow group, and found today he was in a stretch position.  Probably better the latter.  Today’s ride was meant to be an 80km ride, even allowing for the extra incurred by the climb to the masts, (4km each way) we still ended up with 98.3km.  Quite a lot of undulating today, and other than a short shower after the first real climb, the weather held out for us, even a few rays of sunshine at times.  The big climb of the day was an optional excursion up to the radio masts, including some stretches at up to 19%.  challenging but all in our group managed the climb without problems.  There are some people in the group whose weight is considerably less than either Jon or I, wonder what the power-to-weight ratios there are???

I notice on the Garmin results that today’s power was 207 rather higher than yesterday’s 190.  Interesting changes in the data.
In the evening Garry Palmer did a lecture on the planning of a training plan, why to have one etc.  Not the whole detail, but pointers on how & why.  He should be doing a nutrition lecture at some point which will be interesting.
